The Third Judicial District covers Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties. District court judges rotate between locations based on caseload and scheduling. If your case is assigned to a specific judge, that information appears in the Summit County court docket through the XChange portal or the public hearing calendar.

Public access terminals are available at the Park City courthouse. These terminals provide free access to the Utah XChange system for anyone who comes in person. The same system is available remotely for $0.35 per search or $40 per month, with documents available at $1.00 each.

Searching Summit County Court Dockets

The Utah Courts calendar is the fastest free tool for checking Summit County hearing dates. It shows proceedings scheduled in the next 30 days with no login required. Use Ctrl+F to search by name or case number. The calendar covers both the district court and the justice court, so you can check both in one search.

If you are a party to a Summit County case, MyCase is available at no charge. Log in with your name and date of birth to see your case documents, filed orders, and upcoming dates. Parties can access documents through MyCase that would otherwise require a paid XChange subscription or a trip to the courthouse.

The Summit County Justice Court also supports virtual hearings through WebEx. If a hearing is scheduled as a virtual appearance, the link and instructions will be noted in the case file. Note: Deferred Traffic Prosecution is available through the Summit County Justice Court for eligible traffic cases; ask the clerk whether your citation qualifies before your first appearance.

Summit County Justice Court

The Summit County Justice Court is at 6300 Justice Center Road, Park City, UT 84098. The phone is (435) 615-3800. Judge Janet Elledge presides over this court. It handles Class B and C misdemeanors, traffic cases, and small claims matters for Summit County residents.

Small claims cases in Summit County follow standard state procedures. Claims up to a set dollar threshold can be filed without an attorney. The justice court clerk can provide the current filing threshold and the correct form set. Forms are also available at utcourts.gov/forms.

Virtual hearings through WebEx are available for many justice court matters. This option is useful for out-of-county parties or for those with scheduling conflicts. Contact the clerk to request a virtual appearance option for your case.

Summit County Court Records and GRAMA Access

Summit County court records that are not sealed are public under GRAMA (63G-2-201). Public records include civil complaints, judgment entries, criminal charging documents, and court orders. Restricted categories include juvenile files, sealed cases, and certain domestic violence records that a judge has ordered protected.

To inspect records in person, visit the courthouse during business hours. You can view case files at the clerk's counter at no cost. Certified copies require a per-page fee plus a certification charge. GRAMA requests submitted in writing must receive a response within ten business days. The clerk can provide the GRAMA request form on request.

The Utah State Archives holds older Summit County records, including case files that predate the electronic system. Researchers can search the Archives catalog online and request copies by mail or visit in person in Salt Lake City.

Note: Case records that have been expunged are removed from public view and will not appear in XChange or public inspection.
