Searching Duchesne County Court Dockets

Utah offers several tools for searching the Duchesne County court docket. The most direct is XChange, the state's online case management search system. XChange charges $0.35 per search, $1.00 per document download, or $40.00 per month for a subscription. These rates took effect in July 2025. The system covers district and justice court cases statewide, including all 8th District cases in Duchesne County.

Free terminals are available at the courthouse itself. If you visit the Duchesne or Roosevelt courthouse, staff can direct you to a public terminal where XChange access costs nothing. This is a good option if you only need to look up a case or two and do not want to pay for a subscription.

Knowing which tools are free versus paid before you start will help you get the records you need faster.

The MyCase portal is free for parties named in a case. If you are a plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent in an active Duchesne County case, you can log in to MyCase to view documents, upcoming hearings, and case notifications at no charge. This is the easiest way to track your own case without paying XChange fees.

GRAMA, Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, gives you the right to inspect public court records. Under Section 63G-2-201, you may inspect most records for free. Fees may apply only for copies or staff time spent gathering large requests. Submit a GRAMA request in writing to the court clerk at either courthouse location.

Duchesne County Justice Court Records

The Duchesne County Justice Court (West) handles Class B and Class C misdemeanors, infractions, and ordinance violations at the local level. It shares the main courthouse building in Duchesne. If your matter involves a minor traffic ticket, a local ordinance, or a small claims filing, the justice court is likely the right place to start.

Justice court records are public and can be accessed through XChange just like district court records. If you prefer to call ahead, reach the justice court at 435-738-0109. Staff can tell you whether a case is in the justice court or the district court, which matters if you are not sure which docket holds the record you need.

Note: Small claims cases in Duchesne County are filed in the justice court, not the district court. The dollar limit for small claims is set by state law.

Court Records in Duchesne County

Duchesne County court records cover a wide range of case types. District court records include felony criminal cases, civil suits above the small claims limit, divorce and custody matters, adoptions, guardianships, and probate filings. Most of these records are public under Utah law.

Some records are sealed or restricted. Juvenile court records are generally not public. Certain adoption records and mental health commitment records carry access limits. If the record you want is restricted, a court order may be needed to view it. The court clerk can tell you whether a specific record is open before you make a formal request.

For older records no longer in the active court system, check the Utah State Archives. The archives hold court records going back to the 1850s and are located at 346 South Rio Grande Street in Salt Lake City. You can reach them at 801-531-3843. Historical Duchesne County records that have been transferred to the archives will not appear in XChange.

Note: If you need help finding the right record or understanding what a filing means, the Utah Courts Self-Help Center at 888-683-0009 offers free guidance.

Duchesne County Court Calendar

The Utah Courts free calendar at utcourts.gov/cal shows upcoming hearings across all state courts. No login is required. The calendar shows events up to 30 days in advance. You can use Ctrl+F on your keyboard to search for a specific name or case number on the page. This is often the fastest way to find out when a Duchesne County hearing is scheduled.

Because 8th District hearings rotate among Duchesne, Roosevelt, Vernal, and Manila, always confirm the hearing location on the calendar before you show up. The calendar lists the courthouse name alongside each event. Driving to the wrong location is a common mistake in multi-location districts like the 8th.

The calendar does not show closed or sealed cases. It also does not show every case detail. For full docket information, use XChange or the MyCase portal. Use the calendar only to confirm hearing dates and times.

Note: Court schedules can change with little notice. Confirm your hearing date by phone with the clerk the day before.
