The Tooele County courthouse building houses the district court, the justice court, and the juvenile court in separate suites. This layout makes it easy to handle multiple matters in one visit. Parking is available near the building on 100 East.

Searching Tooele County Court Dockets

The Tooele Valley Justice Court judge is John M. Dow. His court supports WebEx virtual hearings for eligible cases. Standard justice court hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Note: Small claims in Tooele County can be filed up to $20,000, which is among the higher limits in the state.
Tooele County Justice Courts
Tooele County has four active justice courts. Each serves its own jurisdiction for Class B and C misdemeanors, traffic violations, and small claims. The Tooele Valley Justice Court at 74 South 100 East covers the unincorporated county and some city cases. Grantsville, Stockton, and Wendover each maintain their own justice courts at separate addresses listed in the table above.
Defendants receiving citations should check which court is listed on the ticket. Appearing at the wrong court can result in a failure-to-appear entry on the case record. If you are unsure, call the Tooele Valley Justice Court at (435) 843-3230 and staff can direct you to the correct location.

Court Records in Tooele County
Tooele County court records that are not sealed are public under GRAMA (63G-2-201). This includes civil case filings, criminal charging documents, judgments, and court orders. Juvenile records, adoption files, and cases under a sealing order are restricted and not available for public inspection.
In-person inspection of Tooele County records is free. Visit the district court clerk at Suite 14 or the justice court clerk at Suite 12 during business hours. Bring the case number if you have it, or provide the party's name. Staff will locate the file and allow you to review it at the counter. Copies are available for a per-page fee. Certified copies carry an additional charge.
GRAMA requests are accepted in writing at the courthouse. The court must respond within ten business days. A request form is available from the clerk. For historical Tooele County records, the Utah State Archives holds court files dating back to the 1850s.
